Charly Oaks inicia su actividad con la creación del grupo músico-vocal Smile, junto con Ricardo y Rolando Robles en 1972. Durante algunos años se presentan en diferentes lugares de la Ciudad de México interpretando el rock de la época, así como composiciones originales. Para 1976, Charly Oaks recorre algunos lugares con su guitarra realizando presentaciones como solista. Un par de años, en 1988 y 89 toca el bajo eléctrico en el grupo MC Jazz, ofreciendo diversos conciertos. Su interés por las Artes Escénicas lo lleva a involucrarse en el teatro, y es a inicios de los años ochenta que estudia la carrera de actor en el Instituto Arte Escénico. Posteriormente se traslada a la ciudad de Minneapolis, Minnesota en Estados Unidos de América, donde obtiene su licenciatura en Arte Teatral por Augsburg College, así como una Maestría en Teoría e Historia del Teatro por la Universidad de Minnesota. Lo anterior lo lleva a la composición musical para la escena. Desde 1990 a la fecha, ha compuesto una gran cantidad de temas para obras de teatro y danza. Su trabajo musical ha sido presentado en diferentes países como: México, Estados Unidos, Alemania, Lituania, Bélgica, Francia, etc.

For several years, they performed at several places in Mexico City, playing the rock of the time, as well as original compositions. From 1976, Charly Oaks traveled with his guitar for solo performances. In 1988 and 1989, he played electric bass in the jazz group MC, offering several concerts. His interest in the performing arts made him to become involved in theater, and it is in the early eighties when he studied an acting career at the Instituto Arte Escénico. Later, he moved to the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota where he obtained his BA in Theatre Arts at Augsburg College and an MA in Theory and History of Theatre at University of Minnesota. This led him to become a musical composer for the scene. From 1990 to date, he has composed a several music themes for theatre plays and dance, and his musical work has been enjoyed by audiences in many countries including Mexico, United States, Germany, Lithuania, Belgium, France, etc.
